Albuquerque’s Double Eagle II Airport has expanded its capacity, providing new infrastructure for the state’s general aviation community.
With over 4,000 private and general aviation aircraft registered in New Mexico, but only about 400 hangars available for storage, the need for additional space has been pressing.
On Saturday, Double Eagle II Airport unveiled ten new hangars, and more are in the pipeline.
John Brown, a general aviation pilot, emphasized the impact of general aviation on the local community, stating, “GA [general aviation] has so much positive impact to the things we do in our community. You don’t necessarily know it right away, but it’s there.”
Kenny Hinkes with High Flying Hangars, the developer of the project, noted, “There are a lot of different size airplanes; airplanes used for different missions. That’s a whole different challenge — trying to create the product itself and match it to the need.”
